  • 6 slices Cooked bacon
  • 4 ounces Shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Thinly sliced green onions or chives
  • Salted butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Grease the Dish: Lightly grease the bottom and sides of an 8-inch baking dish with 1 tablespoon of softened butter.
  2. Prepare the Custard: In a shallow baking dish, combine the beaten eggs, whole milk, salt, and cracked black pepper. Whisk until well mixed.
  3. Flatten the Bread: Use a rolling pin to gently roll out each piece of bread until completely flattened.
  4. Mix the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, and green onions. Toss until evenly mixed.
  5. Fill the Bread: Scatter about 2 heaping teaspoons of the bacon mixture onto each flattened bread piece and roll tightly.
  6. Slice for Presentation: Place the rolled piece seam side down and slice it in half widthwise.
  7. Dip and Arrange: Dip both halves into the egg mixture and place upright in the greased baking dish.
  8. Repeat: Continue steps 4 through 7 until all the bread and filling have been used.
  9. Chill the Dish: Pour any remaining egg mixture over the rolls, cover with foil, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
