- 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese (Choose a good melting variety)
- 1 tablespoon Baking Soda (Creates chewy texture)
- 1 egg Egg + Water (For wash before baking)
- 1 tablespoon Coarse Salt (For topping)
- 2 tablespoons Melted Butter (Brushed on after baking)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- In a stand mixer, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy, then stir in salt.
- Add flour, minced jalapeños, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until the dough is slightly tacky but smooth.
- In a large bowl, dissolve baking soda in very hot water.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces, roll each into ropes, then twist into pretzel shapes.
- Submerge each shaped pretzel in the baking soda bath for 30 seconds.
- Brush each pretzel generously with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush warm pretzels with melted butter before serving.
