Irresistible Shrimp Toast: Your New Favorite Appetizer


Ingredients

  • ½ pound Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon Pork Fat (optional)
  • ¼ cup Chopped Cilantro (can substitute with parsley)
  • 2 Scallions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
  • ¼ teaspoon Sesame Oil
  • ½ teaspoon Sugar
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Cornstarch
  • 1 Egg White
  • 4 slices White Sandwich Bread (alternative: croutons or crusts)
  • 2 tablespoons Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Blend the Pork Fat: If using, add pork fat to a food processor and blend until smooth.
  2. Add the Shrimp & Aromatics: Toss in shrimp, cilantro, scallions, ginger, sesame oil, sugar, salt, cornstarch, and egg white. Process until smooth.
  3. Spread the Mixture: Spread the mixture evenly on each slice of bread.
  4. Sprinkle with Sesame Seeds: Distribute sesame seeds over the shrimp mixture and press them in.
  5. Cut the Bread: Cut each slice into quarter triangles diagonally.
  6. Heat the Oil: Heat ⅛ inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  7. Fry the Toast: Place triangles shrimp-side down in the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another minute.
  8. Drain & Serve: Transfer fried toast to a plate lined with paper towels. Serve hot.
