- 1 cup Cold buttermilk (creates moist biscuits)
- 1 large Egg (provides richness and browning)
- 2 tablespoons Milk or water (for egg wash)
- 1/4 cup Salted butter, melted (for brushing)
- 1/4 cup Honey (adds flavor)
- 1 teaspoon Flaky sea salt (for topping)
- 1 tablespoon Vinegar (apple cider vinegar or lemon juice) (to create buttermilk)
- 1 cup Milk of choice (for added moisture)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Grate the cold butter into the dry ingredient mixture and mix until well-coated.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in half of the cold buttermilk, stirring until very shaggy.
- Add the remaining buttermilk and mix until the dough comes together but remains slightly crumbly.
- Transfer the mixture onto a floured surface and knead gently to combine.
- Knead the dough by folding it 4-6 times while rotating and pressing down.
- Roll the dough out into a 1 1/2” thick rectangle and cut into 8 biscuits.
- Transfer the biscuits to the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with egg wash.
- Bake at 375°F for 35-40 minutes, rotating halfway through.
- Mix together the melted butter and honey to create your honey butter.
- Remove the biscuits from the oven and brush with honey butter and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
