Description
Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp features plump shrimp coated in a light dusting of flour and spices, then sautéed in generous amounts of garlic-infused butter and olive oil. Fresh lemon juice brightens the rich sauce for a quick, impressive meal that captures the essence of Hawaiian roadside shrimp trucks.
Ingredients
- 450g extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8g all-purpose flour
- 3g paprika
- 0.5g cayenne pepper
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 85g unsalted butter, cut into 15g pieces
- 30ml olive oil
- 15ml fresh lemon juice
- 4g minced fresh parsley (optional)
- 40g minced fresh garlic (approximately 1 medium head)
Instructions
- Pat shrimp thoroughly dry on both sides with paper towels and place in a mixing bowl.
- Sprinkle shrimp with all-purpose flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Toss until shrimp are evenly coated.
- Heat butter and olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
- Arrange shrimp in a single layer in the skillet. Cook for about 2 minutes on the first side until bottoms turn pink. Flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes until just opaque and cooked through.
- Remove skillet from heat. Drizzle shrimp with fresh lemon juice and toss gently. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with parsley if desired. Serve immediately, spooning the garlic butter sauce from the pan over shrimp.
Notes
- This dish is inspired by Hawaiian food truck-style garlic shrimp, known for its bold garlic flavor and buttery sauce.
- Contains shellfish (shrimp), dairy (butter), and gluten (all-purpose flour).
- Naturally gluten-free if you substitute cornstarch for flour.
- Can be made spicier by increasing cayenne pepper amount.
- Pairs beautifully with rice or crusty bread for soaking up sauce.
- Best enjoyed immediately after cooking.
