Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground hot sausage
- 8 ounces Velveeta
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- to taste salt
- 12 slices party rye bread
- to taste chopped parsley
Instructions
- Brown the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the ground beef and ground hot sausage. Cook until browned and cooked through, breaking up the meat with a spatula as it sizzles.
- Prepare the Cheese: While your savory mixture is cooking, cut the Velveeta into cubes to help it melt quickly.
- Drain the Grease: Once the meat is fully cooked, carefully drain off any excess grease.
- Melt the Cheese: Add the cubes of Velveeta into the skillet with the meat. Stir continuously over medium heat until melted.
- Season the Mixture: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, oregano, garlic salt, and salt to taste.
- Preheat the Broiler: Set your broiler to high.
- Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with slices of party rye bread.
- Scoop the Mixture: Use a 2-tablespoon scoop to place the meat and cheese mixture onto each slice of bread.
- Broil to Perfection: Pop the baking sheet under the broiler and watch closely! Broil until hot and bubbly, about 2–3 minutes.
- Alternate Baking Method: Bake the appetizers in a preheated oven at 350°F for 15–18 minutes if you prefer.
- Garnish (Optional): If desired, sprinkle chopped parsley over the hot appetizers before serving.
