- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 570 grams ground beef (90% lean)
- 35 grams breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons onion, finely minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 225 grams cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons plain flour
- 360 millilitres beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons low sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, minced onion, Italian seasoning, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully incorporated.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form each into an oval shaped patty.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over high heat. Cook each patty for 4 to 5 minutes per side until deeply browned. Remove from the pan and cover with foil to retain warmth.
- Melt butter in the same skillet over medium high heat. Add mushrooms and chopped onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 5 to 6 minutes until tender and caramelised.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to enhance aroma.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
- Gradually pour in beef broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue stirring and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the gravy reaches the desired thickness.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Return the steak patties to the pan, spoon gravy over each, and cook for an additional 5 to 7 minutes until heated through.
- Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
