- 1 unbaked 23 cm pastry shell
- 450 g fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 15 ml unsalted butter
- 60 ml onion, finely chopped
- 60 ml green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 60 ml celery, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 120 ml mayonnaise
- 120 ml whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 15 ml lemon juice
- 5 ml Worcestershire sauce
- 2.5 ml salt
- 1.25 ml ground black pepper
- 1.25 ml cayenne pepper
- 100 g Cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 220°C. Place the unbaked pastry shell onto a baking sheet.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, green bell pepper, celery, and garlic, then sauté until the vegetables are soft and translucent. Add shrimp and cook until pink and opaque. Remove from heat and drain excess liquid.
- In a mixing bowl whisk together mayonnaise and milk until smooth. Add eggs, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, blending thoroughly until combined.
- Distribute sautéed shrimp and vegetables evenly over the pastry shell. Pour the custard mixture over the filling and sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese on top.
- Transfer to the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the filling is set and the surface is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
