- 1 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 tsp Kosher Salt
- ⅔ cup Granulated Sugar
- 1½ tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 1 to 2 tbsp Sparkling Sugar or Granulated Sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Prepare an 8-inch or 9-inch square baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
- Combine the softened butter in a large mixing bowl until creamy and smooth.
- Add kosher salt to the butter mixture. Stir in granulated sugar and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Incorporate all-purpose flour into the butter mixture. Mix gently until just combined.
- Transfer the dough into your prepared baking pan and press it down evenly.
- Bake until the edges are light golden brown, about 35 to 40 minutes for a 9-inch pan, or 45 to 50 minutes for an 8-inch pan.
- Cool the baked shortbread in the pan for 5 minutes. Cut it into squares, bars, or wedges while warm.
- Sprinkle the top with sugar while still warm. Let cool completely before serving.
