Irresistible Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake That Melts in Your Mouth

- 200 g Butter (unsalted)
- 200 g Caster Sugar
- 2 tsp Orange Extract
- 4 large Eggs (room temperature)
- 1 tbsp Milk (dairy-free option available)
- 175 g Self-Raising Flour
- 25 g Cocoa Powder
- 0.25 tsp Baking Powder (if using plain flour)
- 0.5 Terry’s Chocolate Orange (chopped, optional)
- 150 g Butter (for frosting)
- 275 g Icing Sugar (sifted)
- 25 g Cocoa Powder (for frosting)
- 1 tsp Orange Extract (for frosting)
- 1–2 tbsp Milk (for frosting)
- Terry’s Chocolate Orange pieces (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 160°C Fan / 180°C / 350°F / Gas Mark 4. Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the orange extract, eggs, and milk. Whisk until smooth.
- Sift in the self-raising flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder. Mix gently until incorporated.
- Fold in the chopped Terry’s Chocolate Orange pieces, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared tin and smooth it out. Bake for about 1 hour or until golden brown.
- Cool the cake in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the buttercream by beating together the butter, icing sugar, and cocoa powder. Mix in the orange extract and milk until smooth.
- Decorate the cooled cake with buttercream and top with Terry’s Chocolate Orange pieces and orange sprinkles.
