Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan and preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, canola oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Stir until smooth.
  4. Gently fold in 1/2 cup of the semisweet chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for one hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the bread in the pan for 10 minutes and then transfer it to a cooling rack.
  7. For the ganache, place 1/4 cup chocolate chips in a small bowl. Bring the heavy cream to a simmer and pour it over the chocolate chips. Stir until smooth.
  8. Pour the ganache over the completely cooled bread.
