Instructions
- In a medium pot, combine granulated sugar, water, and kosher salt. Cook over high heat for 5-6 minutes until the mixture melts and takes on a light caramel color.
- Remove the pot from heat, and carefully add heavy cream. Stir continuously over low heat until the caramel is smooth and creamy.
- Stir in cold unsalted butter until fully melted and integrated into the caramel sauce. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine dark chocolate chips and oil. Heat in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.
- Wash the medium apples well and slice them into wedges. Toss the slices in lemon juice to prevent browning, then pat dry with a paper towel.
- Stick the apple wedges onto sticks if desired. Dip each apple slice into the cooled caramel, allowing any excess to drip off before placing it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle any chopped nuts onto the caramel apple slices if you’re using them. Drizzle melted chocolate over the top.
- Enjoy immediately or refrigerate the caramel apple slices uncovered until ready to serve.
